Conlon Construction has scooped a Local Authority Building Excellence award for its outstanding work on a Blackpool youth hub.

The Preston based firm has been recognised by Blackpool Council for high levels of commitment and excellent building standards for the Blackpool MyPlace project on St Annes Road.

Following its success, Conlon have also been nominated by Blackpool Council for the regional North West Building Excellence awards which will take place on 11 May.

Conlon began work on the lottery-funded MyPlace project in October 2011, which opened its doors to the public in March 2012.

The centre offers advice services to help young people get back into education or employment and provides activities such as music, drama and sports.

Highlights of the complex includes a performance and media space, a recording studio, cafe and shop, IT area, offices, climbing wall, dance studio, gym space, games room and a wildlife and flower area.

Construction director at Conlon Construction, Michael Conlon, said he was delighted to have won the award for such an exciting and innovative project.

He added:

MyPlace has been designed and built with young people in mind to create lively and inspirational surroundings for them to spend their free time. The finished centre is stunning and provides an invaluable resource for the local community. We are very proud to have won this award.

The Mayor presented Conlon with the accolade at an awards ceremony organised by Blackpool Council at the Town Hall on 20 April. The North West Building Excellence awards will take place in May.
