The Corn Exchange, Preston

The Corn Exchange is the originally built portion of Preston's Public Hall, the hall section having been added some time later, and was given listed status shortly after its closure at the end of the 1972 Preston Guild celebrations.

The works comprised the construction of shell and core elements following the demolition and clearing away of the Public Hall portion by others to make way for a new inner ring road.

  • Underpinning and restoration of the original masonry;
  • A new extension to the rear to close off the rear elevation after the demolition of the Public Hall, all with brick and stone features to closely match the original;
  • A new steel frame with concrete upper floors and stairs and timber and slate roof construction;
  • New timber windows and external doors;
  • Off-site restoration and reinstallation of large lead-clad cupola;
  • Awarded Certificate of Merit from Preston & South Ribble Civic Trust.
